STRENGTHENING WORKFORCE GOVERNANCE THROUGH INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT

Over 150 industry representatives from across Sarawak attended the Industry Update and Dialogue on regulatory requirements and procedures for the recruitment of non-Sarawakian workers, held at Dewan Seminar PUSAKA, Wisma Sumber Alam, Kuching.

The programme was jointly organised by the Immigration and Labour Management Unit (ILMU), Department of the Premier of Sarawak, together with Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), serving as a platform to strengthen understanding of current regulations while enhancing transparency and efficiency in workforce management.

The session also highlighted the State’s digitalisation efforts through the Foreign Workers Transformation Approach (FWTA), which has recorded over 10,000 registered companies since its introduction in January 2025, including the use of platforms such as JobSarawak, SANSOLS and EXPRT.

According to STIDC, initiatives like this play an important role in bridging the gap between policy and implementation, while promoting responsible, transparent and compliant recruitment practices.

Continuous collaboration between the government and industry players will remain key in strengthening workforce governance and supporting Sarawak’s sustainable economic growth towards 2030.
